Spring alpaca breeding is upon us!

We love Spring for many reasons, but most of all for us, it’s the expectations of new births and then the decisions we are about to make concerning who we will breed for next year’s cria crop.  It’s a busy time but an exciting time.  350 days is a long time to wait, but well worth it.  When we see those new babies arriving and the beautiful results of our decisions, I must say we beam with pride and joy.  There are many factors that go into the decision of who to breed together: genetics, fiber, ancestry, demeanor, color, is the dam a good mom, does she produce sufficient milk and give birth easily, if she is a maiden how was her mom, etc.  All things factor in these decisions, but fiber quality is one of the most important; after all, that’s what it’s all about in the long run.  We’re partial to Alianza genetics: that fine silky, soft fiber is like heaven in your hands.

Kokopele Alpaca is dedicated to breeding fine alpacas, in helping the industry and most especially helping those who are looking to improve their herds or start out at the top of their game.

Our phenomenal sire Maple Brook Manny (pictured) will be traveling with Dr. Andy Merriwether this year.  He has exceptional genetics, has produced many stellar progeny, and has all that it takes to be as notable as his sire Bueno.   We are looking forward to this new adventure as I’m sure Manny is also 😉Asombro2weeks2 sherry-and-honour 1 Asombro2
